About the exam

The British Council, IDP Education Australia, and Cambridge Assessment English collaborated to create the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), a prominent English language competence test. Over 11,000 organizations worldwide, including colleges, employers, and government immigration offices, recognize it.

IELTS is the only high-stakes language test recognized for migration throughout Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, and it can be taken on a computer or on paper. Being a pioneer of English language tests for more than 30 years, IELTS is still the gold standard for English language examinations today.

The Curriculum

The IELTS curriculum is split into four major sections

Listening: This section assesses your ability to interpret spoken English. You will hear four recordings of fluent English speakers and respond to questions about what you hear.

Reading: Your ability to read and interpret written English is assessed in this part. You will read three paragraphs and respond to a range of questions, including multiple-choice, true/false, and short answers.

Writing: This section assesses your ability to express yourself in English. You will be required to write two pieces of writing: a short essay and a letter or email.

Speaking: This section assesses your ability to communicate in English. You will have a face-to-face interview with an examiner, where you will answer questions about yourself while engaging in a brief conversation.

Eligibility for the Exam

To take IELTS, you must be at least 16 years old. Apart from that, there are no specific qualifications for taking the IELTS exam. Anyone can register for the test, regardless of age (16 or older), country, or residency status.

Exam fees

Indian students’ IELTS exam fees vary depending on the test center and the kind of test (Academic or General Training). However, the current registration fee for both Academic and General Training IELTS is INR 16,250. This charge covers the cost of the exam as well as the production of one score report.

Schedule of the Exam

IELTS IDP India is the official IELTS testing center. The IELTS exam is offered several times throughout the year. To minimize last-minute errors, candidates should select an exam date 5-6 months before their application deadline.
